Referral Management Service – Operational Clinical Lead
The NHS Kernow Referral Management Service (RMS) is looking to recruit experienced General Practitioner(s) in the new post of Operational Clinical Lead. This RMS requires operational clinical leadership for a period of 4 sessions per week which can be covered by 1 GP working 4 sessions or by 2 GPs working 2 sessions each. The individual(s) will be required to lead, manage and develop the team of GP Sifters working in the department.
The RMS manages all GP 1st appointment referrals for 53 GP practices with a practice population of approximately 450,000 patients. The RMS is currently working operationally with Kernow Health CIC, commissioners and the Shaping Our Future team, and there is a particular focus on reducing variation in practice referral / rejection rates by improving referral quality.
The Operational Clinical Leads will be responsible for developing and implementing a quality strategy. This will involve engaging with practices and providers to contribute to system wide initiatives which reduce inappropriate demand. Knowledge of issues affecting the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly healthcare community and the wider NHS are essential for these posts.
Operational Clinical Leads will also be responsible for the management of a team of GP Sifters and will have a focus on developing systems and processes to reduce variation within the team. They will also be involved in training, appraising and providing feedback to each team member, as well as carrying out audits and reviewing performance of GP Sifters on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will have skills in interpreting and analysing data and will be able to communicate this to their team in a supportive manner.
The successful candidate(s) have a degree of flexibility in order to attend various internal and external meetings, including the Clinical Moderation Meeting and RMS Steering Committee meetings.
For further information or an informal discussion regarding the role, please contact Fran O’Mahony, RMS Assistant General Manager on 01872 226721.
